Mini Biography

William Ernest Carter was traveling with his wife, Lucile Carter, and the couple's two children, Lucile Polk Carter, and William Thornton Carter, and they all boarded the Titanic at Southampton, England, on Wednesday, 10th April, 1912, traveling to Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

Also traveling in the Carter entourage were three members of the family's staff. Charles Augustus Aldworth was William Ernest Carter's chauffeur, Alexander Cairns was William Ernest Carter's valet, and Auguste Serreplan, Lucile Carter's maid.

Lucile Carter, Lucile Polk Carter, William Thornton Carter and Auguste Serreplan all managed to board lifeboat No. 4. William Ernest Carter managed to board lifeboat Collapsible C but Charles Augustus Aldworth and Alexander Cairns were both lost, and their bodies were not recovered.

William Ernest Carter died on 20th March, 1940, and was buried in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., the sme location that his son, William Thornton Carter, was also buried.
