Vivian Ponsonby Payne boarded the Titanic at Southampton, England, on Wednesday, 10th April, 1912, traveling to Montreal, Quebec.

Vivian Ponsonby Payne was secretary to Charles Melville Hays, and Mary Anne Perreault was also part of the Hays contingent, as the maid to Clara Jennings Hays.

Clara Jennings Hays and Mary Anne Perreault managed to board lifeboat No. 3, but Charles Melville Hays and Vivian Ponsonby Payne were both lost in the sinking of Titanic, but the body of Charles Melville Hays was recovered and identified.
