Traffic I was built for the White Star Line in 1872, at Speakman & Company, of Runcorn. She was built as a baggage and stores tender, and spent her entire career in Liverpool, and was launched on the 22nd September, 1872.

In the year 1896, Traffic I was sold to the Liverpool Lighterage Company, and kept the same identity.

In 1919, Traffic I had her engine removed, and she became a dumb barge.

On the 5th May, 1941, Traffic I was sunk in Liverpool docks by a German air attack, during the 'May Blitz'. She was raised, and returned to service.

In 1955, Traffic I was broken up for scrap on Tranmere beach, on the River Mersey.
