Tauric was constructed at the Belfast yard of Harland and Wolff in 1891, for the White Star Line, and she was launched on the 12th March, 1891, her maiden voyage between Liverpool and New York followed on the 16th May. Nomadic I was a livestock carrier, and her sister ship was Nomadic I.
In 1903, Tauric and Nomadic I were transferred, within the I.M.M.C., to the Dominion Line. On 12th March, 1903, Tauric made her first voyage under the Dominion Line, between Liverpool and Portland, Maine.
In 1904, Tauric underwent a change of name, and was renamed Welshman.
Welshman and Nomadic I were both transferred to the Frederick Leyland & Co., in 1921, and they both kept their names.
Welshman was broken-up at Bo'ness, on the Firth of Forth in Scotland, in 1929.
