Royal Standard's maiden voyage, between Liverpool, the Cape, and Melbourne began on the 23rd November, 1863. It was notable for the death of her Captain, J. E. Allen, on the maiden voyage.
On 4th April, 1864, Royal Standard struck an iceberg a glancing blow, 14 days outbound from Melbourne. She was repaired at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
On the 23rd May, 1866, Royal Standard made a single voyage between Liverpool and New York. On the 27th September, she made her final steam-powered sailing to Melbourne. She was underpowered, and was regularly passed by clippers.
In 1867, Royal Standard was sold to a Liverpool syndicate, who converted her to a sailing ship.
On the 10th October, 1869, Royal Standard was wrecked near Sao Thomas, Brazil.
