TITANIC-TITANIC.com | Titanic Second Class Passenger - LAROCHE, Mrs Juliette Marie Louise

Mini Biography

Juliette Marie Louise Laroche was traveling with her husband, Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche, and the couple's two daughters, Louise Laroche and Simonne Marie Anne Andrée Laroche. The Laroche family boarded the Titanic at Cherbourg, France, on Wednesday, 10th April, 1912, traveling to Cap Haitien, Haiti.

Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche was the only black passenger aboard Titanic, and he and his family were moving from France because of racial abuse they endured there.

Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche was lost in the sinking of the Titanic, and his body was not recovered, but his wife, Juliette Marie Louise Laroche, and children Louise Laroche and Simonne Marie Anne Andrée Laroche all managed to board lifeboat No. 14, and survived the sinking of the Titanic.
