Cardboard boats compete, sink at River Rumba

Some were in it for fun and some for the competition, but everyone who participated had fun watching cardboard boats competitively racing — and sinking.

“I heard it was a really fun race and was very competitive ... and I’m a competitive person,” Jennifer Fraley, 17, said about River Rumba Regatta held Saturday at Three Forks Harbor.

Fraley has competed in River Rumba since she was 11 years old and said she has won every year. The secret to her success is “determination to win it.”

As for Karen Flusche and her boat, Knotty Girls, they have a theory.

“The secret to win is teamwork, camaraderie and competitiveness,” Flusche said.
