A POST CARD sent to a family in Castle Road, Rayleigh from the Titanic in April 1912 – just days before the ill fated ship sank – is now in a museum in Massachusetts, bought for £50,000.
A fact bound to intrigue local historian Mike Davies.
“The card was posted from Queenstown in Ireland the ship’s last stop before it set out across the Atlantic for New York, and met her tragic end,” he said.
His own fascination with the world’s most famous ship, has seen him on a boat just two and a half miles from the site where she went down.
Strangely enough it was a post card that first aroused his interest – he was adding to his collection of Rayleigh cards when he noticed a card of the Titanic with a £30 price tag.
