With roast duckling and fillet of veal, the passengers of the Titanic sat down to enjoy luxury dining at the first dinner held on board the doomed ship.
And now the menu from that lavish and opulent first meal, eaten as the ship sailed along the English Channel coast after leaving Southampton, is up for auction in Wiltshire next week.
Earlier this year, Aldridge & Sons auctioned off a menu card from the last ever dinner, which was neatly folded into the handbag of one of the first class passengers who survived the sinking, for £76,000.
Next weekend, the Devizes-based auctioneers acknowledged as world-leaders in Titanic items, have the menu card from the first meal, which is expected to fetch in the region of £30,000.
