Director of Titanic deep sea dive eyes off new project

THE Sydney engineer behind Titanic director James Cameron's record-breaking deep sea voyage is eyeing Australia's east coast for his next exploration project.

Ron Allum co-designed Cameron's Deapsea Challenger submersible on the 11km dive to the bottom of the western Pacific Ocean in late March.

Now he's looking for scientists and adventurers willing to work with him on the "virtually unexplored territory" 50 nautical miles off Sydney Heads.

"Scientists, if they could get a study grant to research the east coast of Sydney, we could facilitate them and make the equipment, and even run an expedition," Mr Allum said at the launch of the 2012 City of Sydney Business Awards today.
