Titanic music resurfaces at Norwalk Library concert

Postby Andrew Clarkson » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:49 am

he Titanic is back in the news this weekend. A concert entitled "And the Band Played On" attempts to reconstruct the music performed on the passenger ship's fateful voyage and takes center stage at the Norwalk Public Library at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20. The Jim Clark Trio, with David Coe on guitar, Tracey Marble on vocals, and Clark on saxophone, travels back in time to April 1912, and explores what might have been the last songs played on the vessel before it sank. "It is our imagining of what might have been on the final set list," said Clark, a Norwalk resident. "To put together our list of songs, we looked at a few factors, what songs were popular when the Titanic sunk, who were the shipbuilders, and from where the crew hailed." The set list also includes songs like "Nearer My God to Thee," that were reported to be heard on the Titanic, said Clark, who's a noted composer, producer and band leader. The concert is free and takes place in the Library's second floor auditorium. The Norwalk Public Library is located at 1 Belden Avenue, corner of Belden Avenue and Mott Avenue, in Norwalk. Call (203) 899-2780 ext. 15109, or visit www.norwalkpubliclibrary.org.
