There could only be one place to start: Titanic Belfast. Opened in April just in time for the centenary of the sinking, it’s the world’s biggest museum devoted to the memory of the great ship.
“Wow,” said my son Max as we walked up to the glittering £97million building designed by Chicago architect Eric Kuhne to emulate both ships’ hulls and the insignia of the White Star Line.
“Wow is right,” I said, although I didn’t have the heart to tell him and my daughter Zuzu that locals have already christened it The Iceberg.
With nine galleries over six floors telling the story of the ship’s conception, construction, launch, tragic maiden voyage and rediscovery at the bottom of the Atlantic, it’s brilliantly done, with enough detail to keep my wife and I enthralled and plenty of interactive entertainment to keep the kids happy.
