Your favorite Titanic feature?

Postby Sigvard1912 » Mon May 14, 2012 2:05 am

Titanic was a beautiful ship. When you look at old pictures or paintings of the Titanic what stands out for you ? what is your favorite part of the ship ? Some of my favorite features are the way the bridge looks and the way the bridge wings sweep back from the forward facing windows. The closed part of the first class promenade and the upswept windows at each end when they change to the big open windows. Ive always loved the way all the big promenade windows upsweep at the end on, A and B deck fore and aft. the shape of the hull and it appearance, the beautiful gold line between the white and black paint on the hull. the shape and the position of the funnels. the way they painted her name TITANIC on the forecastle. I could go on forever. what is your favorite Titanic feature??

Overall the whole ship is beautiful. I tend to look more at the technological aspects though.

For some reason I can't help but always look at the ventilator on the starboard side just to the right of the bridge.
I see that area and it reminds me that there were people in the ship and that it also needed to breathe.

The standpipes on the sides of the funnels also catch my eye.

Call me crazy, Dan

Hello Sigvard,

The name on her bow plates was actually engraved! :)
To me, the Mauretania of 1907 hits the perfect note between functionality and aesthetic beauty.

Best wishes,
Eric

Hello Sigvard 1912. How nice it is to have a happy and positive thread. Difficult to pick just one thing but I would say the shape of the stern as it hangs out over the sea. Ken.

Definitely the gymnasium, which stands out so easily with its arched windows. If I went to one of those Titanic museums (the one's that tend to feature the grand staircase as its centrepiece) and it didn't have a replica gymnasium, I'd be very disappointed

Also, the café that I think someone's already mentioned; the one's where the doors were slid back (on the Olympic) during nice weather

The Turkish baths (I would imagine) were pretty spectacular. Even though, I never seen a colored image.

Hello Aly. Your not telling the truth are you. What Aly meant to post was that her favorite Titanic feature would be...............James Moody. Ken.

I don't think anything particularly stands out for me, I love all of the ship.

I like the entrance doors in the D deck reception area and the woodwork of the cafe. ~Joyce~

Nat Geo magazine has a photo taken from the wreck...absolutely stunning, but I think what you would really like is James Moody in the turkish bath ;)
