Discuss the RMS Titanic here.

Quote I thought cruise ships can only travel within smaller seas like, say, the Mediterranean or South China Sea, not transverse great oceans like the North Atlantic? End quote.

That's what I had thought too. Thought only the queens were aloud to travel the NA?

Hello. The Balmoral although classed as a medium sized vessel certainly does travel across the Atlantic. The cruise she did before I got on her for the mini Titanic cruise was for an almost 3 month round the world cruise. Some thing that sounded a bit worrying was that during our cruise one of the speakers during the trip mentioned a short history of the Balmoral. And he said that she had been lengthened since she was first built. Not sure why that sounded a bit scary but it did. Ken.

The Balmoral is also the largest ship owned by the Fred Olsen Line, just like the Titanic was the largest ship in the White Star Line. :(

I wonder how the ship is doing right now with the bad weather?

Hello Aly. The ship is probably going up and down and up and down and up and down etc etc. The balmoral was fine last week in a force 10. I mean it was not possible to walk straight while in the storm but I felt in no danger what so ever. Ken.

Has there been any iceberg danger reports? That would make the cruise even more like the Titanic voyage.

Due to last minute changes, it looks like I'll be going to the Titanic exhibit today :D , a dinner next week as Chief Officer Wilde (I decided on him because I look more like him), and Titanic 3D sometime. So it looks like I'll be living on the Titanic this April :D .

Well, it's already April 15 here in Malaysia (0100 hrs) and I was just watching "Titanic: Final Word by Jim Cameron" on Discovery Channel... I'll still be awake for now and should be looking out for the other Titanic documentary on History Channel in the morning! :)

Hi I bought the Ismay's Dream CD which brings the story to life very vividly. Myself and a few friends are going to listen to it and remember all those who perished on this fateful night. Have never been to Belfast but will definitely be going there soon thanks to the stories on this cd.

Ardoyne,I shall be going down to Belfast tomorrow, for a Dinner,it is not a Titanic Dinner, like the one I organised in the Europa Hotel in 1978,it is not even a Titanic dinner either, but by chance it was organised on the 15 April, however no doubt someone will bring up the subject of the Titanic, and when it does I will try and keep quiet and not spout off about it,especially as it was the date my grandfather drowned on the Titanic. We, too, are doing the final 1st Class Dining Saloon dinner, for 6. Between courses, I'll be telling stories from that night.

In re: flowers, one thing I know is that you should NOT use the Cameron film as a guide. Cameron got a lot of stuff right (most of the nitpicks from those who do that are really, really minor), but he used flower arrangements involving eucalyptus and stargazer lilies, neither of which were available, as I understand it, in England in 1912.

I just watched the documentary "Titanic: Mystery Solved" on History here in Malaysia, which was from 2000 to 2200 hrs... Very interesting insight into the disaster and such painstaking work to photograph and analyze the wreck, before the researchers found out why the ship buckled during the iceberg collision!

And I also had a simple dinner with the wife, although it wasn't exactly a Titanic dinner but still significant to have a meal on the same day as the ship's sinking...

I commemorated the Titanic centenary at 2-20 am this morning by observing a minutes silence followed immediately afterwards by playing Nearer my God to thee that I have on CD. To me this seemed an appropriate way to mark the occasion. I thought of all the people who lost their lives that April night 100 years ago. I have also put three Titanic documentaries on to record. One of which is Cameron The Final Word' plus I have also recorded Saving the Titanic by Bob Ballard and another looking back on the reasons for the disaster. I have also borrowed a Daily Mirror Titanic Editions from work. It was amazing how wildly inacurate some of the initial stories were.

Just quiet reflection
For the lost souls
For the lost ship
Hoping they know we remember.
