The Titanic memorial voyage has suffered a delay. The cruise ship Balmoral has now turned around and is heading back to land because of a 'medical emergency'. The ship will still arrive at the spot where Titanic sank on schedule. It is eerie because the delay now means they will sail in Titanic's shadow on the same day the Titanic left for New York.

Aaron, yes it is eerie lets hope history does not repeat itself in some form,an anniversery with a cutting edge talk about the curse of the Pharoas. This has the making of another Epic voyage already.History being made for the trippers of substantial means with cabins at the cheapest £3,00-odd the cheapest, however I was lucky I cancelled my trip, and lost the deposit on the Balmoral, thus saving about £3000-500,by losing £350-00 deposit,a strange investment in how to save by not spending I don,t think I have missed much anyway.Pat

Hello. The emergency I learned today was the BBC cameraman got ill and was taken off by helecopter. We got some notes given to us as we were getting ready to leave the Balmoral. It's maximum speed is 18 knots. So it better not have any more delays or they wont get there in time. Ken.

Oh my, that's indeed an eerie coincidence happening exactly 100 years from Titanic's maiden voyage... I'm guessing Balmoral is heading to the nearest port to its present location, am I correct? Let's hope that the ship does not suffer anymore delays, otherwise those Titanic descendants will not be able to perform their memorial service as scheduled!

The Balmoral is sailing full speed into very stormy weather. Reminds me of the Titanic sailing full speed into an icefield. Instead of ice warnings, the Balmoral is receiving severe weather warnings. I wonder if the captain is ignoring them and ordering more speed. ;)

Almost forgot it will soon be Friday the 13th. Did the Costa Concordia crash on Friday 13th?

Aaron 200010,I hope that the Passengers do not come to any harm,as I saw some comments about the Balmoral which said that she was not fit to sail in the N.Atlantic, however I am glad that the travel firm who run the operation decided not to put me on the team of lecturers, even though I lost my £350-00 deposit because I cancelled it and was annoyed that even though I was the first person to volunteer my services. However on the bright side I actually saved over £3,000-500,by cancelling the trip how lucky am I.I even tried to contact the owner of the ship Fred Olson, but even though I tried no one could help me however if he reads this then I will not have to contact him.So I wont be on the Balmoral for this 100th year anniversary but in a hotel in Belfast.Pat

HI pat, I'm sure she will too. Just the bad weather and all how ironic.

I never knew that a cruise ship were allowed to sail through the North Atlantic waters.

Even the cruise commemorating the 100th anniversary of Titanic's sinking is plagued by problems... First there's the need to airlift the sick BBC cameraman, then delayed again due to bad weather, but Balmoral has started its journey but again in a huge storm? Ironic, because Titanic also faced that near-collision with the two smaller ships in Southampton before proceeding?

Anyway, it's 2012 and I have utmost faith that the more sturdy and secure liners of today can withstand the turbulent weather in the North Atlantic... Let's just hope the ship's personnel be on the lookout for any water hazards, including those icebergs!

Aly, the Balmoral's a cruise ship? And all this while I thought it was an ocean liner!

I thought cruise ships can only travel within smaller seas like, say, the Mediterranean or South China Sea, not transverse great oceans like the North Atlantic?
