100th Anniversary. How do you plan to commemorate it?

How does everyone plan to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the sinking?

I am hosting a dinner party for 8. I will be re creating dishes served on the Titanic in the 1st class dining room but the food will be served on replica dinner ware from 3rd class..so mixing it up a bit I have managed to almost match the silver napkin rings used by the WSL,they just lack the logo. I have other replica items which will be on the dining table,candlestick holders etc
My guests will be dressing in period costume so we've been having fun with Edwardian fashion.

I'm needing help with flowers in the dining room. I read an account (I think from Lady Duff Gordon?) that she remembered there being pink rosebuds and white daisies...anyone have any further information on this?

I'd spend the day browsing the Internet and watching documentaries and Titanic explorations. I'm also going to the cinema to watch James Cameron's Titanic 3D.

And that dinner party is out of this world, I'm truly impressed! Oh, I so wish I could attend it. Period costumes and stuff are absolutely fascinating. Hope to see some pictures from the event on the board!

I think all these should happen the day Titanic left for NY which was something really happy, not the day of the Titanic sinking!
People and Animals {yes I count animals too} died that day, it really doesn't seem like a day to celebrate!

Hello EvilEmperorZorg GR. I always go to Southampton on April 10th and spend the day there because thats when everything was happy. I park in the car park where the red funnel ferrys leave for the Isle of White which is not to far from where Titanic actually left from. There will be more to do this year so I might have to spend a couple of days there. I will be back at Southampton for the weekend of the 14th and 15th. Liverpool has things going on which I will be there on the next weekend. Also have to sort out when to go to Belfast. Ken.

Hello Joshua. Always interested in Titanic documentarys. How far have you got with it? and are you planning to have it ready for the centenary? Excuse my ignorance but what is a "Homeschool event"? Ken.

It'll be interesting to see a full Titanic documentary that covers everything, from the time construction started to the day the wreck was discovered!
It'll be hours long, but still interesting!

The script is still being written, but I've got a lot of things worked out for the documentary. We're part of a homeschool group that does things like history days where we give reports on historical events or figures (I did one once on the USS Indianapolis). I was thinking we could do something like that except they don't have to reports. They're invited to dress up and bring food. I have some things to put on display and it should be an interesting night if I can get some place to hold such an event.

These are all fades attempts to mark centenary of the tragedy.
The point is to collect as many tourists and visitors in cities where there will be some
events. Tourist organizations and operators, hotels will happily rub palms.

Hello Joshua. Do you visit schools to do a homeschool event? I was going to ask where in England are you but many times I have been surprised to learn that someone I assumed lives in England actually lives some place else on this Earth so what country are you from? I ask because the school where I work gets visited from time to time by people doing just what you mention. Usually the theme is how the Victorians used to live but the children dress up in period clothes as well. Ken.

I will be attending a memorial service at St Mary's church in Southampton on sunday 15th which is in the area where most of the crew lived who lost their lives then I'm going to berth 44 to through a wreath for my ancestor Robert Hichens and all those who died and survived.

Hello Hichensancestor. I chose to celibrate the centenary on April 10th as then every thing was happy which is why I will be in Southampton on that day. As for the actual centenary of the sinking I have no plans. It is going to be a sad day. Ken.
