QM2 meets the world's largest ship

Postby Captain ACS » Mon Jul 04, 2011 7:24 am

It's the meeting of 2 giants. The meeting of the Cunard Queen Mary 2 with the monster Royal Caribbean Allure Of The Seas (or maybe it's Oasis Of The Seas). This is a snapshot of that day:

I wonder what people were thinking then. Probably feeling like they were small compared to those giants  .

Hello Captain ACS. Very impressive. Great picture of the day. Where was the picture taken? QM2 is by far the better looking of the two. Ken.

I'm guessing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as that's where both the Oasis and Allure Of The Seas are based out of :)

Seeing those two, I am glad I am not at sea any more!

I like the black and white combination on the Queen Mary, reminds me of Titanic. Nothing against cruise ships, but they are not built elegant but always built ugly.

I don't like the look of today's ships either.

Oh man, that giant Allure of the Seas is like a ship with a mega-sized Las Vegas casino complex on top, i.e. it's an ugly monstrosity! You know those huge hotels, but floating on the sea instead...

At least the QM2 indeed looks like a newer and larger version of the Titanic, with the white top and black bottom... :D

QM2 is actually operated by the same company; Cunard bought out White Star Line

Hello. I just noticed that "Allure" has four funnels just like Titanic. Ken.

That's not smokestacks. Those were behind the ship when pic was taken  This is what Allure actually looks like

Join the club. There are very few that measure up to the appearances of past vessels, IMHO. The older ones had such character and "grace". I also like the white/back color schemes too.

The photo attached, the SS Badger, is supposed to be the last coal-powered steamer here in the US.
