A question for all you ship enthusiasts...

Postby Alex » Sun Jul 01, 2007 3:42 am

For all you ship/boat/sailing enthusiasts, are you also interested in undersea life, as well as the shipping world? (Like learning about marine animals like fish, whales, sharks, etc)

Ever since I took an interest in the Titanic, my interest has broadned. I now take interest in any ship, not just the Titanic. However, I must say that I still don't find it interesting to learn about marine life - a love for the maritime world seems to only include ships, not undersea life...not sure why....

What about you, do you have a strong interest in ships and sea life?

As a sailor, my interest in sealife was doing whatever it took to avoid ending up as it's lunch! that gives one quite the incentive to make sure that one's damage control qualifications are current!

For those that go down to the see in ships, let it be a big yin!!. I'm interested in ALL kinds, I'm totall 'awed' by them, how big can they get?, about the size of a modest resort they say!. I may love ships but I didn't inherit my dads sea legs, I like to keep my pins firmly planted on mother earth. I'm not scared of say, going on a cruise, but the ship would have to be the size of (at least) the QE2 !! (that incidentally is my final goal, I saw her coming to life in Glasgow, I'd love to cruise on her and she's here in Australia next Feb/March, but alas, can't make that one!). So, my interest is the model variety, I'm starting to gather a 'few' all feuled by the 'Build the Titanic' series I might add!. I managed to get the build up to "A" deck before loosing my 'shipyard' to the wife (she needed the lounge table back again!!) I then found E bay during my 'redundancy' from the yard, as do we all!. So I've now got 14 kits to build and I'm thinking I might not live long enough to finish them!. Included in the above 14 are 3 Titanics, I thought I'd build the 'plastic' Mini-Craft 1/350th at the same time, then on E bay up pops someone selling parts 1-60 of the Amati series, and I thought, why not?, this'll let me do it right this time fixing the incorrect bow shape and the replacement of all the card bits with 'Freds' etchings. I'll be starting the build again (soon, got all the etchings)and I hope to share some stories along the way. Getting back to the 'header' I may have strayed a wee bit,(sorry) but it is quite exciting getting back on one of these Forums, I'd probably classify myself as pretty 'enthusiastic!!'.....Dave.

I'm interested in all ships, probably because of what my dad does for work. I am also interested in what lives under the ocean.

Ocean Odyssey-This documentary shows an incredible story, just as amazing as one any human can go on. It follows the life of a fictional Sperm whale from birth to death-highly recomended to get interested in/expand/educate yourself on the life under the oceans. This is what really got me interested in such things.

My interested started with the Titanic, went to the Bismarck, and went on from there to other ships. Marine life doesn't interest me as much but I still watch shows every now and then about fish and sharks.
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. And there was no more sea. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Revelations 21:1, 4

Anyone know of a decent pup north Mersey side were we can spend a few hours we dont have long enough to visit the city center. I asked were are you berthed, Reply. Royal Seaforth Docks container berth. which is a very short distance from my house.I suggested a pub in the Crosby area and added at least you lads will enjoy a sing song the pub has karaoke, reply lol i am female? which i believed and do to this day, Moral of this tale is any young lady wishing to take up a career at sea it can be done go for it.
