I only hope that by the time these ships are completed that there's an aircraft available which can operate from them. The MoD recently announced yet another change of plan in choosing the V/STOL variant of the F-35 to fly from these ships. This is a part of the program which Congress is just itching to find an excuse to cancel.

If that happens, what you'll end up with on your side of the pond will be the largest and most expensive helicoptor carriers in history.

Comment: While the U.K. is debating whether or not carriers are a good idea even as they're building two of them, for the Chinese, the answer is obvious.

Getting the hulk of the former Varyag into a seaworthy condition is a stunning achievement, but they are still a long way away from having a useful military capability with this ship.
