Does Cunard still fly the White Star banner on 4-20 each yea

Postby Greenwyvern » Fri Apr 27, 2012 3:24 am

I read somewhere that Cunard flies the White Star swallow-tailed pennant on April 20th of each year in honor of the last surviving officer of the White Star line. April 20 being his birthday. If this is true does it still happen? I would guess he would be closing in on 100 if he is still alive.

I don't remember Aly. It was probably long ago I read this somewhere and it may not be true. I was hoping someone might have heard the same story and could verify it.

Didn't only Boxhall and Lowe survive? Boxhall died in 67.

White Star had a lot of officers besides the guys who were onboard the Titanic. With Britannic III having gone out of service in 1960, it's concievable that some might still be around.

I've seen references to something of this sort on various message boards and mailing lists over the years, but nothing that I'd consider authoritative. Maybe an email to Cunard would produce an answer.

Boxhall was the last survivor of Titanic's officers; he died on 25 April 1967. As to the last surviving White Star officer, I don't know.
