For years the Titanic has consumed Bernie Dohnt’s mind.
His fascination with the ship ran so deep that four years ago he embarked on an extraordinary challenge — creating a 1:72 scale replica of the ill-fated ship.
And now, the result — an impressive 3.7m model weighing 200kg — is on display at Titanic: The Exhibition in Sydney.
The marine engineer , 31, of Wattle Grove, said his lifelong interest in the ship was sparked by a trip to the library in kindergarten, when he spotted “the back end of a ship sticking out of water” on the front cover of a book.
