Emily Maria Ryerson was traveling with her husband, Arthur Larned Ryerson, and their three children, Susan Parker Ryerson, Emily Borie Ryerson, and John Borie Ryerson. The Ryerson family all boarded Titanic at Cherbourg, on Wednesday, 10th April, 1912, and were bound for Cooperstown, New York.

Also travelling with the Ryerson contingent was Grace Scott Bowen, who was governess to John Borie Ryerson, together with Victorine Chaudanson, who was the maid to Emily Maria Ryerson.

Arthur Larned Ryerson was lost in the sinking, and his body was not recovered. His wife Emily Maria Ryerson, and their three children Susan Parker Ryerson, Emily Borie Ryerson, John Borie Ryerson, together with Grace Scott Bowen and Victorine Chaudanson all managed to board lifeboat 4, and survived the sinking.
