Mini Biography

Alexander Cairns boarded the Titanic at Southampton, England, on Wednesday, 10th April, 1912, traveling to Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

Alexander Cairns was valet to William Ernest Carter, so was part of a large entourage which included William Ernest Carter, his wife, Lucile Carter, and the couple's two children, Lucile Polk Carter, and William Thornton Carter. Also traveling in the Carter entourage were two members of the family's staff. Charles Augustus Aldworth was William Ernest Carter's chauffeur, and Auguste Serreplan was Lucile Carter's maid.

Lucile Carter, Lucile Polk Carter, William Thornton Carter and Auguste Serreplan all managed to board lifeboat No. 4. William Ernest Carter managed to board lifeboat Collapsible C but Charles Augustus Aldworth and Alexander Cairns were both lost, and their bodies were not recovered.
